WRITING & PRESENTING YOUR ESSAY 

The evaluation criteria listed below were taken straight from Daniel Chandler’s evaluation response forms. These comments not only provide you a sense of what tutors look for when grading your essays, but they also serve as a realistic manual on how to prepare and present your academic papers. 

Presentation: The content must be formatted and presented in a way that makes it both intelligible in terms of expression and clarity. The primary typeface for word-processed presentations is a 12-point serif font (such as Times Roman). The text must be legibly printed in black (except for illustrations). Be as precise as you can in your communication. Make your text’s structure clear to the reader by using section headings. it is also critical to pay  attention to formatting rules like page numbers, line spacing, margins, bullet points, indentations for quotes of four lines or more, sections and font. The structure of the text may also be enhanced (size, italics, and bold). Do not underline anything.Where your content is visually oriented, figures and tables might be employed to improve the presentation.  Your presentation and argument may be strengthened by selecting and strategically using pertinent photos that have been scanned from print or acquired from electronic sources. Cropping may also be utilized effectively to draw the reader’s attention to important aspects. Please take note that any book, movie, television, newspaper, and magazine titles must be in italics and without quotation-marks. Copyedit your material as meticulously as is anticipated for published work, paying particular attention to spelling, punctuation, and style. 

Coverage: The set assignment must be completed in its entirety (note in particular where a question has more than one part). Each point’s applicability to the topic at hand must be made obvious, as must the content’s overall significance. Get to the point right away; lengthy introductions that are not directly linked to the issue at hand are a waste of time. Particularly waffle is certain to get worse grades. Be sure you address all of the important points, but avoid trying to cover too much ground. 

Sources: The use of pertinent academic source materials, such as books, journal articles, papers, databases, and websites, must be shown. Both extensive and in-depth critical reading must be shown. Avoid citing in footnotes; instead, cite your sources in the text’s main section as follows: (Smith 1990: 25). Secondary sources should be referenced using the format: (Smith 1990 cited in Jones 1999: 2). Focus on the sources that are required for the task, but go above and beyond them. Bibliographical searches may help you read more. Avoid overusing straight quotations from academic sources; instead, paraphrase key ideas and then cite them to show that you understand them.
